I was so happy when a friend from elementary school asked me if I would do their newborn pictures.
They were undecided on whether or not they wanted to do maternity pictures. I told them that I had always regretted not doing them myself. I would love to have professional pictures from that time in my life. That is why I am always feeling so passionate about people preserving their memories. Once the moment has passed, you just can’t get it back. Photographs are so special.
If you ask just about anyone what they would grab if their house was on fire, what do they say? Pictures. We don’t ever want to forget these special times in our lives. I’m so glad this awesome couple decided to go ahead with their maternity session. They were so sweet with each other and so connected that I’m not sure if they knew I was there ;) It was a chance for them to slow everything else down, and take some time to be together.
Thank you so much B and M for letting me capture you. It was amazing!

I promised a few images of the kids outside of the abandoned house we had found. Only three were brave enough to get out of the car in the 35 degree heat. I am dying to go back already. It was so much fun photographing my own kids! (And gorgeous niece of course).

Growing up I was always too nervous to try out for school sports teams. What if I didn’t make it? What if I embarrassed myself? I’ve always regretted not at least trying. On the other hand, I was always so impressed with my younger brother. He would try out for anything! Quite often with amazing results too. If he wanted to learn Martial Arts, he did. If he wanted to try out for a play? He did. If he thought being on the Canadian bobsled team was a good idea- he did it. If he decided to run for President of his College- he did. And guess what? He won! I’ve always admired him for going after what he’s wanted.
So, awhile back I thought I would adopt this attitude in photography. If I saw a contest I wanted to enter.. I’d enter it. Simple as that. I saw a contest awhile back for a summer themed photo. I found one of my images that I thought represented this theme well and I submitted it.
Awhile later I got an email with THIS link.
I just about fell out of my chair. There is was, my image at the very top! I swear my three year old thought I had totally lost my mind.
What did I win? A free spot in a great worksop! I never pass up the chance to learn. It’s called The Light Workshop and I’m so excited to start learning this week. Light truly makes or breaks a photo and I can’t wait to gain some more insight into utilizing light to its full potential!
Here is the image that won:
If you’d like to see my sons version of my reaction just click on this- He is saying “I win a grand prize” if you can’t understand him. It was hilarious. IMG_1054 (Apple TV)
