On my random trip to Saskatchewan a few weeks ago, I was hoping to run into an abandoned house. Sure enough, we found this one. I am so grateful to my brother in law who helped me scout out locations and drove me around without complaining once!
We started by taking some shots of the kids outside the house. It is obvious that it was a beautiful home years ago. I loved that there was still a live vine wrapping itself around the front the house. I always want to know- who lived here? Where are they now? Why was this house just left here? Why is there still so much stuff inside? Am I going to fall through the floor any minute? haha
Since the backdoor was wide open- I had to go in and check it out. Seems like a few mice, birds and other things thought the same. I went in alone and it was quite a freaky feeling. It was quiet inside but I could hear the birds singing outside and I felt like I might be in the middle of a horror film. I crept around very slowly just shooting what had been left. A baby carriage, pots, a toaster.. so many good things. SO many good things that I would have loved to take with me. Beautiful vent covers, antique basins and wooden crates. A gorgeous door. Who knows what was upstairs or downstairs? I didn’t want to push my luck as the house seemed pretty unstable. Now of course I’m kicking myself wondering what else I could have found.
It was a neat experience. Next post I’ll share some images of the kids outside of the house. Just one for now :)

A few years ago my son had a great teacher who introduced him to a series of books called “The Tunnels of Time”. They were all about prohibition, Al Capone, gangsters, and bootlegging! My son loved the stories in there and has wanted to check out the tunnels for himself ever since.
SO, when I planned my random trip to Saskatchewan I knew we’d have to detour and go to Moose Jaw to visit the tunnels ourselves. The whole experience exceeded our expectations. If you are ever near Moose Jaw you have to go and check them out. It was a one hour tour through the tunnels but it was all done by actors in character and it was truly amazing. They were so believable that when they told us that they were going to shoot us all, my three year old started crying and saying, “I’m Fraser,I’m nice. I’m Fraser,I’m nice.” The poor little guy.
Some might think I was an interesting mom for sending my kids out as bootleggers with guns, cigarettes and cigars but we had a blast! Even in the 35 degree heat.
I went on this trip to photograph my own kids and these images were definitely worth the trip! Be warned… there are a lot here.
OK, maybe my little guy looks more Amish than gangster here but I still think he’s adorable!

It was so much fun photographing these three friends who just graduated high school. We had tried and tried to meet up during the summer but busy schedules and lots of rain kept us waiting. These girls were such great sports to shoot in the freeeeezzing cold!
I absolutely love photographing teens. They are so much fun, so open, and so darn beautiful.
I have already started my graduation sessions for 2010/2011. Please contact me if you’re interested in your very own photo shoot!
