I was able to be a part of something so amazing last week. The birth of a new baby!
Birth photography is truly a passion of mine and I am honoured every time I am asked to document such a monumental event.
This was unlike any other birth I have captured before. This couple decided to use the Bradley method and to welcome their baby in a birth centre. The parents had decided to labour at home as long as possible and so they were already 36 hours into it when they called me to meet them at the birth centre. They had such a wonderful support group with them. Two friends (a chiropractor and an acupunturist ), amazing midwives and a super supportive husband. It was truly incredible to be there and experience all of the emotions with them.
At about 4am I had to leave because I had to catch a flight to LA. I was attending a Beloved Collective seminar that I’m sure you’ll hear more about in the coming months. I felt horrible leaving them at this point and of course I wanted to be there so badly to meet this new little baby. I left them my camera and hoped that someone would be able to get some shots.
Shortly after I left, they went to the hospital because they recognized that the mom was not going to dilate any further. She had been so brave and so strong and gave it 100% of her effort but sometimes our bodies go against the plans we have. Keep in mind this was now 48 hours of labour.
She laboured several more hours at the hospital and had her beautiful baby boy by C section that evening. Three days later they were able to hold this baby that they had been anticipating for nine months! All the while her two friends did not leave her side. One of them was even pregnant herself.
Meet this gorgeous little man. Below is a link to the birth slideshow and below that a sneak peak from our newborn session. Many more to come from that session!
